Online Mass for the 6th Sunday in Ordinary Time

at the Border Town Parishes February 16, 2025

Celebrated at St. Anne's Church

230 N. 6th Avenue

St. Anne, IL  60964

The basic differences between the telling of the Beatitudes in Matthew 5: 1-20 (on which we focus next year) and Luke 6: 20-26 (This Weekend's Gospel) is that Jesus speaks on a mountain in Matthew's gospel speaking about eight positive beatitudes whereas in Luke, Jesus preaches on a plain, laying out four positive beatitudes and four negative ones. The manner in which we live, whether we wish to be popular or hated, rich and fat or poor in spirit, determines whether we live like Christ or choose to live like man - the latter leads to eternal fire while the former leads to everlasting life.

The Mass is preceded by a video highlighting the growth of the Hispanic Community at St. Patrick's, which almost GUARANTEES that no one will close the Church, as she is growing by leaps and bounds!!!

Catholic Conversations on Catholic Spirit Radio - a Podcast with Paul Garcia about the St. Anne  Novena from July 17-25, 2024 and the Feast Day on July 26, 2024. First Broadcast on June 22, 2024.

Welcome to Catholic Conversations on Catholic Spirit Radio! I'm your host, Paul Garcia. Today, we're honored to have Father Pete Jankowski from St. Anne's Catholic Church in St. Anne, Illinois, and St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Momence, Illinois. Father Pete is also a theology teacher at St. Francis University in Illinois. Join us as Father Pete shares exciting updates about the upcoming 138th annual St. Anne Novena and its rich history.

The St. Anne Novena is a nine-day period of prayer leading up to the Feast of St. Anne on July 26th. This tradition, which began in the 1850s, includes venerating a relic of St. Anne, the mother of the Blessed Virgin Mary and grandmother of Jesus. Father Pete recounts the history of the relic and its journey from France to St. Anne, Illinois, and shares miraculous stories of healing associated with it.

Father Pete emphasizes the significance of faith, prayer, and community in experiencing God's grace. He invites everyone to participate in the Novena Masses from July 17th to 25th and the special events on July 26th, including Masses in English, Latin, and Spanish, processions, and activities for all ages.

Tune in to hear inspiring stories and learn more about the spiritual and historical importance of the St. Anne Novena. Discover how this event brings people together in faith and devotion, offering a unique opportunity to encounter God's love and grace.

St. Anne's Catholic Church was founded by Father Charles Chiniquy, who travelled to Illinois in 1852 and helped found the parish for which the city was named. He was accompanied by most of his French-Canadian parishioners from nearby Bourbonnais, IL. The current structure was built in 1872 to replace Father Chiniquy's original log church. The stone structure is of Gothic design and topped with a bell tower. The church survived a fire in 1893.

The church contains a national shrine to St. Anne, established in 1888 to provide parishioners with a counterpart of the shrine at Beaupré, Canada. The shrine is now known throughout the Middle West and several miraculous cures have been reported. St. Anne's Day, July 26th, brings hundreds of visitors to venerate the relic of la bonne Sainte Anne.
